Drawstring Fabric Gift Bag Tutorial
Gift bags look more beautiful than gift wraps. Since Christmas is slowly but surely approaching, maybe it is a good idea to find out more about how you can saw a nice looking gift bag. It will take just a few minutes to sew this gift bag which makes this tutorial so great and a great option to consider during the holidays because it is perfect for those on a low budget. The materials you`ll use for this gift bag are: some scraps or leftover fabrics, ribbon, disappearing ink marker, coordinating thread, shears sewing machine, something eye catchy like a decorative brooch or even a pendant. It would be perfect if you had a mat and a rotary cutter. The dimensions should be respected though: for a small bag cut a piece of fabric to match 6×20” and a ribbon piece of 22”. For a medium sized bag you`ll need a piece of fabric that measures 8×24” and a piece of ribbon that measures 26”. If you want to make a big gift bag you`ll need 10×30” piece of fabric and a 26” piece of ribbon. Fold the fabric piece in a half, aligning the short ends. Measure 5 inches from the unfolded short edge and mark it using a disappearing ink marker. It’s time to stitch the fabric starting from the mark you made till you reach the folded part of the fabric. Stitch the opposite part, too. Use a zig-zag stich to finish the seams. Fold the margins of the fabric. Fold the pieces of fabric like in the images below to form the impression of a pocket and start to stitch them into place. Put the ribbon in the casing using a safety pin and that’s it. Attach a decorative brooch or a pendant next to the ribbon. Fill the gift bag with anything you have in mind.
