From Billys to Built-Ins
Everybody dreams of the perfect, spacious bookcase. It costs a lot to buy a big bookcase but the problem can easily be solved if you engage in a do it yourself project. It won’t take more than 7 hours or so and the results are amazing. Simple Billy bookcases can be turned in real built-ins. If the current baseboard is taller than the height of the Billy shelf found at the bottom, the problem can be fixed by adding a piece of plywood to serve as baseboard and to elevate the bookcase, too. The vertical pine trim can be attached using a nail gun. Then it must be primed with Zinsser. All the gaps between the bookcase edges, crown and baseboard can be easily concealed by using paintable caulk. The baseboard should have a correspondent at the top of the bookcase. You need another piece of plywood that has the same size like the baseboard. This will fix the bookcase down and you`ll prevent accidents from occurring by having a sturdy new bookcase made out of four cabinets attached together. You shouldn’t stop here. Add a little color to your room. Get some plain looking chairs and paint them using the same color that you`re going to choose for your new bookcase, too. You can use some spray paint if you don’t want to waste too much time painting the new bookcase.
